KAILASH YATRA

There is perhaps no other single mountain on earth, which means so much to so many people. Any journey to Mt. Kailash in remote western Tibet will be well worth the effort whether one is a Hindu contemplating a Parikrama of the paradise abode of Lord Shiva and Parvati, a Jain visiting Astapada from where Lord Rishabanatha attained heaven or a Buddhist who considers Mt. Kailash to be Kang Rinpoche (the precious jewel). The reverence accorded to this most holy mountain is further enhanced by the fact that four great river systems that drain the Himalayas and sustain large parts of the population of Asia, the Indus, Sutlej, Karnali (a major tributary of the Ganges) and the Brahmaputra (known in Tiber as Yarlung Tsangpo) have their origin from Mt. Kailash area.

As holy as the mountain may be to many people in India, the Chinese Government restricts the number of Indians who may travel across the Indo – Chinese boarder on pilgrimage giving rise to a huge number of people who would like to make the ‘once in a life time’ trip. However, this problem vanishes as if by magic when the trip is organized involving travel through Nepal from where Indian Nationals may cross over to Tibet on Tourists visas.

Two travel trade agencies that pioneered adventure travel and trekking into Tibet and Nepal have combined their resources and have decided to jointly operate various packages called Kailash – Mansarovar Yatra for Indian as well as third country travelers. Under these packages, clients are looked after from the moment they land in Kathmandu to the time they complete the trip and depart for home. Considering complaint of Indian pilgrims that have taken this trip, we have arranged to provide Indian vegetarian meals to the pilgrimage and travelers during the trip. We have positioned depos with food items (rice, flour, potatoes etc) at various places on the way and at the Kailash Base Camp. Each depo has Nepali cooks and Sherpas to assist the travelers.
